Innovation: Food waste/Coffee as part of Circular Economy

Coffee is consumed all around the globe, while just few countries dominate its production. Around 2 billion cups are drunk every day. Coffee, being the pleasure, nonetheless it produces a lot of waste. Coffee grounds often end up in landfill or being washed into sinks and drains, contributing to the food waste problem – around a third of all food produced is thrown away.
Now two entrepreneurs in Helsinki have started making sneakers from used coffee grounds. The shoes are vegan and are “The sweet smell of innovation”.
